Drift Brigade in Canada for DMCC Rd1

June 17th, 2009 Special K No comments

Drift Brigade heads North to DMCC Round 1 Montmagny Quebec Canada and has to pay duty on the trophy!!

Drift Brigade weekend in review: DMCC Round 1 Montmagny Quebec Canada from Import Intelligence on Vimeo.

West Chester, PA (PRWEB) As a DMCC season opener this one sure went down in the record books as being one of the wildest journeys to date.

Tuesday June 9th the team got news that Dunlop has officially stopped supporting all their drifting teams so Matt Waldin and Damien Bagley of Drift Brigade are currently seeking a new tire sponsor to fill a huge void. Drift Brigade has been sponsored by Dunlop for the last 7 years so the changes to the origination will take some time to adjust to but the team is hopeful that this absence will be filled quickly.

Thursday June 11th the team loaded the rig and set north with Matt Waldin’s 350z and Damien Bagley’s matching 240sx. Damien had just purchased a 2003 Dodge Dually to pull the trailer. While they were in upstate New-York ( Adirondack section ) at 4am the trucks gas gauge decided that it was going to go from half tank to empty in a matter of minutes! Before we knew it we were stranded on the side of the road in the rain with no fuel. Matt set off on the teams pitbike and rode down a 4 lane interstate with a fuel jug strapped to the front of the 50cc monster on the shoulder to the nearest exit so they could get the rig going again. Upon his return Damien was watching as a police car with lights on was escorting Matt back down the interstate with the fuel. After a 2hr break we were back on the road!

Practice day was on Saturday, A couple die hard fans attended the practice day while Waldin and Bagley unloaded the cars and began the quest to set the bar for the weekend.
Sunday would bring the crowd as DMCC packed the stands with over 6000 people descending on the small track in Montmagny. The team went out for qualifying which landed Waldin as the #1 qualifier and Bagley not far behind in 8th place on the ladder.
A half-time show was added to DMCC this year called Flip-a-Ride. This involved parallel parking a 1992 Honda Civic in between a wall of boxes. Three drifters were selected as representatives for 3 lucky fans to win a new flip out auto DVD unit. Waldin’s fan partner seen to have drawn the lucky straw for the weekend. Waldin on the 2nd attempt parked the civic squarely in the parking area as the crowd roared.

Shortly after the half-time show it was time for the tandem round. First up was Waldin who had a bye run in the first round. Bagley headed up Maxime Truchon who piloted the red SC300. Truchon spun on one of the runs which resulted in a win or Bagley. For the 2nd round of tandem eliminations Waldin and Bagley were set to go head to head. This round would go for a OMT ( One More Time ) as Waldin and Bagley drove with each other so much that the battle between these guys is almost too close to call on any given Sunday. Waldin finally squeaked by a win after Damien tagged the rear wheel of the 350z leaving a tattoo of a tire in his door for the weekend. The crowd roared in excitement but that was the nail in the coffin for Bagley. Damien would end up in 7th place overall for the weekend. Waldin moved on to face 2 time series champion Fred Girard. Girard had been consistent all weekend and when it came time to running. After a OMT and Waldin would win by a narrow margin an move on to face the guy climbing the other half of the ladder, Pat Cyr.
Waldin and Cyr line up on he starting grid getting ready to square off for the #1 and #2 spots for the weekend. Away down the straight Waldin’s engine blows a rod straight through the bottom of the engine leaving an oil slick on the track which would send Cyr into the wall and eventually Waldin as well. Both drivers fought a hard battle all weekend but when the smoke had cleared the 350Z was in no shape for competition. Matt would have to forfeit his run and settle for a hard fought 2nd place position on the podium.

BFGoodrich Drift Team Set to Kick-Off Drift Mania Canadian Championship Season

June 3rd, 2009 Special K No comments

BFGoodrichIf you’re tires aren’t smoking, you’re not drifting hard enough
BFGoodrich Drift Team Set to Kick-Off Drift Mania Canadian Championship Season

Tight turns at high speeds, and tires that seemingly smoke for days are what each BFGoodrich drift team member brings to the table. Ryan Lanteigne, who impressed drift fans last year with his perfect lines and tricked out car, returns for his second season with BFGoodrich. Joining Ryan will be new team members, Carl Nadeau and Claude Poirier.

“We’re back and we’re going to be better than ever,” says BFGoodrich Drift Team driver Ryan Lanteigne. The competition better watch out!”

Lanteigne’s precision and consistency make him a threat whenever he gets behind the wheel, while Nadeau’s daredevil nature makes him a force to be reckoned with. Both love the thrill of drifting and are not afraid of pushing their tires to the limit. The drivers can also count on Claude Poirier’s experience in car racing to be an asset to this year’s team.

About the vehicles
Ryan’s back with his “Billy Goat”, a 450HP V8 LS2 Pontiac GTO, complete with RKSport coil-over suspension and a Wilwood big brake kit. Carl Nadeau’s “Monster Solstice”, a convertible Pontiac Solstice, will be ripping up the track, thanks to the 5.7 litre V8 LS6 engine that packs 450 ponies under the hood. Claude is set to drift in his “Nancy”, a Nissan 240SX, which boasts Battle Version suspension and nearly 500HP. The three cars are equipped with BFGoodrich g-Force™ T/A® KDW tires.

The team takes the track to the net
Carl and Ryan are also set to own the Internet like they own the track when drift fans get to follow them on Twitter throughout the season. Also make sure to check out videos, pictures and BFGoodrich Drift Team driver profiles by visiting www.bfgoodrichdrift.ca.

See you at the track in Montmagny for Round 1!

Newcomer Matt Waldin Challenged Series All Star Chris Forsberg

First top 32 competition in Formula D for Matt Waldin

Newcomer Matt Waldin Challenged Series All Star Chris Forsberg in the First Ever Formula Drift Top 32 Tandem Battle

West Chester, PA (PRWEB) A new year brings a new event set up for Formula Drift including tandem battles that start at the top 32 drivers instead of the top 16 offering spectators more head to head tandem battles than ever before. At the Formula D season opener, Streets of Long Beach, the top 32 tandem battles started with Matt Waldin, a new driver to Formula D, and Chris Forsberg, a seasoned, top driver for the series.

Matt and Chris are old friends from the east coast drift scene. Chris took the leap early and devoted his time to drift competitions. Matt remained on the east coast and runs an east coast hot spot, Import Intelligence, where the team there builds drift cars and other performance vehicles. Having two old friends from the same little town in Pennsylvania, both in 350zs, one rookie, one all star ? meet up for this epic, first ever Formula Drift top 32 tandem battle, seemed fitting.

Naturally having the 32nd qualifying driver (Waldin) compete against the 1st qualifier (Forsberg), gave the obvious advantage to Forsberg, but all were surprised when Matt entered the course and more than held his own. Forsberg took the win and moved on, but not without having to put up a fight with this formidable rookie.

?Chris is one of the best drivers out there and I was stoked for the challenge of our heads up tandem battle. Competing with top level drivers pushes me to improve my own driving so running against Chris really made me step up my game,? commented Matt Waldin after completing his first ever Formula D tandem battle. ?I?m looking forward to the challenge of proving myself in the Formula D series. With a couple more tweaks to the new car we expect to qualify much higher in Atlanta.?

Matt Waldin is sponsored by Tuner Icons, Import Intelligence, Dunlop Tires, Mishimoto, SPL Parts, Competition Clutch, NGK Spark Plugs, BC Racing suspension and is a member of the Drift Brigade driving team. More information is available at mattwaldin.com.

Import Intelligence gears up for 2009

March 13th, 2009 Special K No comments

We met the boys from Import Intelligence last year in DMCC. Needless to say they put on a great show and definitely left their mark showing commitment and dedication to the Canadian drift scene. For 2009 a brand new chassis was announced not too long ago…the addition of their new 350z. With so many events to attend in 2009 i’m sure Waldin and his boys will have a fun season.
